The Farmington Public Safety Cadet program is now the Public Safety Cadets Unit #34!
The Public Safety Cadets Unit #34 provides participants with insight into the world of policing. Meetings are held bi-monthly. The program is designed to teach cadets the roles and responsibilities of police officers, such as:
Responding to domestic disturbances, bombs threats, and other high-risk calls
Conducting traffic stops
Other police-related activities
Cadets may also be permitted to ride along with officers from time to time and will get to serve their community as volunteers at police events.
This is an excellent opportunity for teens and young adults interested in a law enforcement career.
The recruiting process for the Public Safety Cadets Unit #34 has components similar to the police officer's hiring process, such as an age requirement, in-person interview, and background check.
Interested individuals must fill out an application (link below) and meet the following criteria:
Be between the age of 14-20 (must have graduated from the 8th grade to be eligible)
Must pass a background check
Must pass an oral interview
Demonstrate a willingness to serve and participate in the group activities
Be of good moral character.
Cadets must maintain a C average and attend 90% of the meetings and 75% of unit activities. Program fees are $15 per year. Individuals may apply for payment plans or hardship scholarships.
The program fee covers insurance, uniforms, and equipment. Farmington Police Department will issue cadets’ uniforms and equipment.
