Affordable Housing
OVERVIEW
Affordable housing is generally defined as housing in which the occupant is paying no more than 30 percent of gross income for housing costs, including utilities.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROPERTIES
Properties listed below are either categorized as subsidized or have received LIHTC financing.
- A subsidized housing unit is one in which a tenant pays approximately 30% their adjusted income on rent and utilities. The management agency or Public Housing Authority calculate the tenant's rent amount. HUD then pays the difference between the tenants rent contribution and the total rent that is paid to the property owner. For more information on HUD rental assistance programs, contact the property directly or the San Juan County Housing Authority.
- Properties that have received Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) financing must provide affordable rents to tenants who qualify based on income guidelines. For more information about a particular building and their corresponding income guidelines, rents, and any other qualifications, please contact the property directly.

FAIR HOUSING
Title VIII of the Civil Rights Action of 1968, also known as the Fair Housing Act, was enacted to guarantee the right of equal opportunity to housing for all Americans.
It is illegal to discriminate in the sale, rental, and financing of housing, and in other housing-related transactions, based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodian, pregnant women, and people securing custody of children under the age of 18), and handicap (disability).
Fair housing is the policy of the City of Farmington and implementation of the policy requires the positive commitment, involvement and support of each of our citizens.
The City of Farmington is committed to highlight the Fair Housing Act by continuing to address discrimination in our community, to support programs that will educate the public about the right to equal housing opportunities and to plan partnerships with other organizations to help assure every American of their right to fair housing.
