Tommy Roberts, Mayor Early Life & Education
Tommy Roberts was born in Farmington, New Mexico in 1951. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1969, the University of New Mexico in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration, and the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1976. He has practiced law in Farmington since 1976, specializing in oil and gas law.
Tommy has been an active participant in many of Farmington's civic and community organizations. He served a four-and-a-half-year term on the Farmington Board of Education ending in 1987 and two four-year terms on the Farmington City Council ending in 2006.
He served 20 years as a member of the Farmington Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors, with a term as President of the Board, and he served three terms as Chairman of the Connie Mack World Series Association. Tommy helped to establish two community charitable giving foundations; the Foundation for Educational Excellence and the Boys and Girls Club Foundation. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Robert Umbach Cancer Treatment Foundation. Tommy was a 2005 graduate of the Leadership New Mexico Core Curriculum Program.
Tommy was a 2006 University of New Mexico Alumni Association Zia Award recipient in recognition of his community service in Farmington, and he was recognized by the Farmington Chamber of Commerce as its Citizen of the Year for 2006.
Tommy has been married to Cindy for 44 years. They have two children; Alison, an attorney in Denver, Colorado, and Samantha, an attorney in Washington, DC.
