Farmington Regional Airport Manager Named 2018 Airport Manager of the Year

 

 

Farmington, NM:  On April 5, 2018, Four Corners Regional Airport Manager, Mike Lewis, was awarded Airport Manager of the Year for 2018 by Mr. Robert “Bob” Hudson, President of the New Mexico Airport Managers' Association, in Santa Fe, New Mexico during their annual meeting. This award goes to the airport manager that does an outstanding job in managing the airport and advancing aviation safety at his/her airport.  Criteria includes administrative expertise, maintaining a safe and efficient airport, general upkeep of airport, staff and management interface (internal and external), and involvement in the local airport community.  Other nominees included: Ray Jenkins (Grants Milan Municipal Airport) and Scot Stark (Roswell International Air Center).

 

Mike Lewis became airport manager at the Farmington Four Corners Regional Airport in March of 2014.  A longtime resident of Farmington, Lewis brought with him over 25 years of experience in aviation and airport operations, and a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management. .

Since 2014, Mike has completed multiple projects including: several taxiway reconstructions, an erosion control project, Runway PFC’s, and land acquisition.  In July of 2015, he was recognized for a Certificate of Completion and the American Association of Airport Executives designation as a Certified Airport Manager.

 

Mike has been an active member of New Mexico Airport Managers Association for over 4 years.  This past year, he was asked to serve on the Airport Manager's Association Board.  During the past year, Mike has assisted in making recommendations to the New Mexico State Legislature regarding aviation related legislation.  Additionally, as a board member of the New Mexico Airport Managers' Association, Mike was a contributing participant at the Annual Aviation Day at the NM State Legislature. During Aviation day at the legislature, Mike and the other members of the board assembled and distributed informational packets to each of the state senators and representatives informing them of the improvement projects and importance that the aviation system means to New Mexico.  Mike is also a member of the American Association of Airport Executives, and has served as President of Mountain West Airlines as part of Mesa Air Group.  

 

Currently Mike Lewis is coordinating efforts to upgrade Four Corners Regional Airport from a category B II to C II in order to engage regional jet service to the area.  Under Mike Lewis's management, nearly 20 million dollars of Federal Airport Improvement Funds have been secured for the Four Corners Regional Airport. 

 

The accomplishments of Mike Lewis will be honored at the Farmington City Council Work Session on April 17 at 9:00 at City Hall.
