City of Farmington responds to governor’s press conference on three presumptive COVID-19 cases
The City of Farmington’s emergency management team met today to discuss statements made at the governor’s emergency declaration press conference and determine its next steps. “The community’s safety is our top priority, and we are working closely with partnering organizations (San Juan County Office of Emergency Management, San Juan Regional Medical Center and Farmington Municipal Schools) to facilitate appropriate actions,” said city manager Rob Mayes. “All City facilities remain open at this time pending clarifying direction from corresponding state agencies regarding the governor’s statements.”
The City is postponing the Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Kick-off Party scheduled for this Friday. This decision was made with respect to timely notification to event vendors and attendees. The exhibit and the museum will remain open to visitors, as social distancing can easily be maintained in the facility. Future events will be evaluated on a case by case basis with notification provided as early as possible.
At this time, San Juan County has no confirmed cases of COVID-19. This situation remains fluid, and the City is monitoring it closely. Health officials continue to emphasize the importance of preventing illness to self and others. Citizens should wash their hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, cover their cough/sneeze with a tissue and stay home if they are sick.
Individuals who are at higher risk for more serious complications from COVID-19 (older adults and those with serious chronic medical conditions) are urged to take actions to reduce their risk of getting sick with the disease, including the practice of social distancing.
