The Green Revolution is a revolutionary exhibition with a minimal carbon footprint that allows host institutions and communities to be part of the green solution. Made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service based on an exhibition originally created by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, and its Black Creativity Council, the exhibition uses recycled and repurposed materials to teach creative ways to reduce waste and conserve energy. Multiple hands-on learning stations give this exhibition a green light for families and school groups. Aiming to raise awareness of how small daily changes can impact our environment, it has something for everyone - as compelling for kids who are just learning about the subject to adults who have a more earnest environmental message to convey.
Part of American history and culture from the beginning, quilts are much more than bed coverings. quilts are also family heirlooms and works of art that have stories to tell. Some stories are obvious, written on the fabric itself, while others require a closer examination to uncover. "Quilts and the Stories They Tell" showcases examples made locally alongside quilts brought into the region.
The Totah Festival is a marketplace where Native American artists share their skills and craftsmanship with the community, visitors, and each other. The festival, held every Labor Day weekend in Farmington, features a fine art show, Pow-Wow, cultural dance expo, and Navajo rug auction. In years past, artists were encouraged to submit designs for the annual advertising poster. In conjunction with this year's festival, the Farmington Museum will showcase all of the posters created since 1989.
