Mary Fischer, District Two

Mary Fischer has been a resident of Farmington since 1952, graduating from Farmington High School in 1967. She is serving her sixth term on the Farmington City Council, having served from 1982 to 1986 and then from 1992 to the present. She has long been a community leader having been the Executive Coordinator for the Farmington Clean City Committee, as well as Executive Director for Farmington Industrial Development Service (1986-88).

She has been recognized state-wide as:
  • Outstanding Young Woman (1982) Farmington Jaycees
  • Outstanding Young Woman (1983) San Juan Jaycees
  • Outstanding Young Woman in America (1983)
  • Outstanding Young New Mexican (1988) New Mexico Jaycees
  • Colonel-Aide-de-Camp (1988) Governor Carruthers

Mary's primary goal is to make Farmington a wonderful place to visit and an even better place to call home.

Mary has also been involved in the following projects and goals:
  • Building a new Regional Animal Shelter
  • Solving our area's public inebriation problem
  • Maintaining affordable utility rates
  • Supporting the construction of a city-owned natural gas power plant
  • Promoting economic conservatism in uncertain economic times
  • Making Municipal Government open and accessible to the public
  • Protecting our water supply
