Victim Assistance Program

The Victim Assistance Program of the Farmington Police Department (FPD) consists of one full-time victim advocate, a detective, and a part-time victim liaison. The program provides services for crime victims, trainings for law enforcement and the greater community, and participates in various multidisciplinary groups.

 

Victim Advocate

The victim advocate provides system-based advocacy services for victims of violent crimes, with a majority being domestic violence and sexual assault. These services include the following:

 

 

  • Acting as liaisons between victims and the criminal justice system (communication)

    • Informing victims of their rights and advocating for those rights

    • Explaining the criminal justice process

    • Informing victims of court dates

    • Assisting victims with statements at sentencing

 

  • Crisis Intervention

    • Assisting victims with obtaining orders of protection

    • Shelter placement/victim relocation

    • Safety Planning

 

  • Support Services

    • Assisting victims with Crime Victims Reparation Commission (CVRC) application process

    • Providing support during court hearings, safehouse interviews, depositions, etc.

    • Arranging for transportation to court proceedings or other related appointments

 

Victim Liaison

The victim liaison conducts follow-up calls with victims of non-violent crimes.
