Farmington Indian Center temporarily closed while staff assists at Bonnie Dallas Senior Center
FARMINGTON, N.M. - The City of Farmington today announced the Farmington Indian Center will be temporarily closed beginning Wednesday, July 8, until further notice. The facility’s staff will be reassigned to the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center to assist with the senior meal program. The announcement comes after the City learned an employee at the senior center had possibly been exposed to COVID-19. In an abundance of caution, the Farmington Indian Center staff will take over meal preparation until further notice. The senior center continues to be disinfected repeatedly throughout the day in accordance with NM COVID and general food handling safe practices. The employee is self-quarantining for 14 days and waiting test results. In addition, the center is conducting contact tracing under the guidance of the New Mexico Department of Health. At this time, the center has no reason to believe any citizens have been exposed.
Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs Director Shana Reeves said, “Our seniors’ safety and wellbeing is of the utmost importance to us. The senior meal program is essential for many area seniors, and we are committed to maintaining that service while also protecting their health.”
