Assistant city manager receives ICMA credentials
FARMINGTON, N.M. - Assistant City Manager Julie Baird was recognized during last night’s city council meeting for recently receiving the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association. Baird is one of only 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program. She’s among the organization’s 13,000 members in 27 countries, including educators, students and other local government employees.
Mayor Duckett said, “I certainly appreciate the service Julie provides. She’s very adept, very knowledgeable and she’s a great sounding board. I’m grateful for what you do for the city and for every person who calls this place home or who travels through it. You’ve left an indelible mark on many of the things that make this city a beautiful community.”
To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government. They must have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field, and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity, lifelong learning and professional development.
Baird is qualified by six years of professional local government executive experience. Prior to her appointment in 2016 as assistant city manager for Farmington, she served as general services director for three years for the City of Farmington and special projects manager for five years for the City of Bloomfield.
Baird has a Master of Arts in Museum Administration from George Washington University and originally came to Farmington to serve as director of the Farmington Museum.
She’s made significant contributions to a number of other organizations, including serving on the boards of ECHO and the Leadership San Juan Alumni Association. Julie also helped initiate the Board Basics course at San Juan College for area non-profit organizations.
