Message from Mayor Duckett on San Juan Generating Station

message from mayor

Over the last several years, the City of Farmington has worked diligently to keep San Juan Generating Station open with Enchant Energy by installing carbon capture and sequestration technology.

Keeping SJGS open would have saved 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, increased tax revenues for schools and created future career paths in carbon capture technology. In addition, Farmington Electric Utility System would still be able to receive power from SJGS thus helping keep customer rates low.

A few months ago, mayor and council initiated legal action against Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) and other exiting co-owners of the San Juan Generating Station.

This was done to protect the plant’s future viability as the exiting owners were beginning to auction off key equipment at the plant needed for continued operation.

Today, Mayor Duckett is providing an update on the City’s efforts to keep SJGS in operation. Please watch this important HERE.
