Walk a Shelter Dog Agreement

  1. Walk a Shelter Dog Agreement
    Form heading 2015.jpg
  2. The shelter can be a noisy and stressful place for dogs that have been lost or given up by their owners. Interaction with people is their best therapy.

The Walk a Shelter Dog program gives the dogs this essential quality time with people who care about them. It also gives the dogs’ mental and physical stimulation that is essential to maintaining their happiness while in the shelter. Finally, the dog walking program has the potential to get dogs adopted into their forever homes by meeting and greeting members of the public.

Dog walkers must be 18 years old or older.

  3. As you walk our dogs we ask that you adhere to the following protocols to insure your safety as well as the safety of others and the shelter dogs:
    • Be cautious when approaching other dogs on the trails. Do not allow dogs to meet face to face.
    • Ask the shelter staff to assist in getting a dog if you do not feel comfortable doing so.
    • Harnesses should not be so loose that they can slip over the dog's head.
    • Only walk a dog you feel comfortable walking. Use the color-coding system to find a dog that should be within your comfort zone, but if unsure please ask staff for assistance finding an appropriate dog.
    • Always carry more than one poop bog with you and clean up after the dog you are walking.
    • Please sign each dog you walk in and out. You need to get their names when you pick the dog.
    • Report any incidents or issues immediately to shelter staff.
    • If a dog gets loose, gets lost, or gets in a fight please notify Shetler staff.
    • As a safety precaution we ask that if you are walking with children, please do not allow them to carry the leash by themselves.
    • Walks should be limited to 30 mins (times may be shorter during hot weather). This allows the dogs to be seen by the public to be adopted.
  4. By submitting this form I confirm I have read and hereby agree to the terms above and understand failure to comply could result in the termination of my dog walking privileges.
